Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — 1 October 2026, The Islamic World Development Network (IWDN), in collaboration with Universitas Muhammadiyah Sukabumi (UMMI), has launched an International Community Service Program in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, running from 1 to 28 October 2026.
The 28-day program brings together 27 UMMI students and is conducted in collaboration with Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (SIKL). The initiative provides students with an opportunity to participate in community engagement while gaining practical experience in an international environment. The program is designed around educational, social, cultural, and community-based activities. Through direct engagement with the Indonesian educational community in Kuala Lumpur, participants are expected to contribute their knowledge and skills while developing a deeper understanding of cross-border community engagement.
Beyond Community Service
The International Community Service Program is not limited to conventional community service activities. It is also designed as an international learning experience that connects education, community engagement, youth development, and cross-cultural interaction . For the participating students, the program provides an opportunity to strengthen leadership, communication, teamwork, adaptability, and intercultural understanding. Living and working in an international environment also allows participants to experience how Indonesian communities maintain educational and cultural connections beyond the country’s borders. The collaboration with SIKL is particularly significant in creating a direct connection between Indonesian higher education students and the Indonesian educational community in Malaysia.
Strengthening Indonesia–Malaysia People-to-People Connections
The initiative reflects the importance of people-to-people engagement in strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia. Through education and community service, the program creates a space where students, educators, and communities can exchange experiences and build relationships beyond formal institutional cooperation. For IWDN, this initiative represents part of its commitment to developing international collaboration through education, youth engagement, community development, and cross-border partnerships. The program also supports IWDN’s broader efforts to connect Indonesian institutions with partners across the region and create opportunities for young people to gain international exposure through meaningful activities.
A Platform for International Student Engagement
The 28-day program is expected to provide participants with more than academic and community experience. It aims to encourage students to become active contributors in international environments and develop a broader perspective on cooperation, community development, and intercultural understanding. Through the collaboration between IWDN, UMMI, and SIKL, the International Community Service Program demonstrates how educational institutions and international networks can work together to create practical opportunities for young people while strengthening connections between communities. The program will continue until 28 October 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
